AberMagic is the first of a new generation of High Sugar Grass cultivars bred for higher sugar levels and dry matter yield. AberMagic has a late flowering date (19 days later than Nui) and offers exceptional year-round dry matter production.
The higher sugar content in Aber HSG ryegrass offers significant agronomic benefits because it enables ruminant animals (cattle, sheep and deer) to more easily and efficiently digest grass protein, and nitrogen use efficiency.
A further benefit offered by Aber HSG diploid ryegrasses is their strong persistency, as indicated by vigorous root growth.
In trials on IBERS research farms with Welsh half-bred ewes and lambs, the live weight gain of lambs was 20% higher where animals were grazing the HSG variety. In the same study, the carrying capacity (stocking rate) of the HSG sward was 20% higher than the standard ryegrass sward.
For regeneration avoid grazing or cutting during and post flowering (October– November) until the seed matures in early summer to ensure reseeding. Our variety in stock is safe for animals and should not pose fertility or bloating problems in grazing animals.
High D-values under both grazing and silage management
Quick establishment with good winter/spring production
Very good rust resistance
More milk production
More meat production
Less nitrogen waste to the environment.
